Global electronic conference on globalisation, poverty and development: The World Bank in conjunction with the Panos Institute London sponsored a month long public electronic conference throughout the month of May on "Globalisation, Development and Poverty". The ‘e-conference’, which was open to global participation, was the first in a series of conferences proposed by the World Bank on this topic. Forthcoming Events

Education for Sustainable Development: The UNED and South Bank University are holding a one day seminar on Friday 16 June. The principal speaker is Rt. Hon Estelle Morris, Secretary of State for Education and Employment, other speakers from the DEA, CEE and UNED Forum will also be present. P7 Summit: The European Parliament’s 4th P7 Summit, held between 7-10 June in Brussels, will concentrate on water security. ‘Water, a right to live in the 21st century’ will discuss ‘water warfare’, the case for water privatisation and other related topics. Comprehensive Development Framework (CDF): The second phase of the World Bank’s discussion on a Comprehensive Development Strategy began on 6 June 2000. The ‘e-consultation’ follows and builds on the first phase which took place last year. It is hoped that public interest and debate will help generate a final strategy.
