Communication and the globalisation of poverty: The World Association for Christian Communication is holding a 2-day seminar between June 23-24th 2000 addressing the issue of how communication can help narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. Transparency International (UK): The AGM and speaker’s meeting of Transparency International (UK) will be held on 27 June 2000 at 6pm. The principal speakers at this meeting are Tony Colman MP and Dr Vincent Cable MP. Tony Colman has chaired the Parliamentary All-Party Group on Socially Responsible Investment and prior to being elected as an MP Vincent Cable was Director of research at Chatham House, Senior Economist at the ODI and Senior Economist with the Shell Group. The effectiveness of EC Development Assistance: The International Development Committee is to undertake the aforementioned inquiry. Evidence will be taken from the Rt Hon Clare Short MP, Secretary of State for International Development on July 4th 2000 at 10.30am. Memoranda should be submitted by Tuesday 20th June. London Development Policy Forum: The Trades Union Congress is to sponsor the London Development Policy Forum for the second time on 5th July 2000. The forum forms part of a DFID initiative to increase awareness and understanding of development issues among civil society. The Rt Hon Clare Short will take part in the in the afternoon session.
